Short-Term Medical health insurance plans are private health insurance plans not regulated by the government. The policies are designed to provide short term coverage, from 1-12 months to cover gaps in coverage from job loss, termination of spousal insurance, or for those that need immediate health coverage.

Since Short-Term Medical policies require additional underwriting, not everyone may qualify. But individuals or families in healthy condition, may receive a policy at a cheaper rate with better benefits than what is offered by "Marketplace" policies.
